Life with a service dog

 Emma Did Fine Alone

Emma did fine alone until Greg got home. I had a fun time at the ball game. The Twins lost and didn't play very well but we still enjoyed ourselves. The seats were so close to each other and it would have been a tight squeeze to have Emma under foot. I will wait to bring her when my MS friends go and we sit in the cheaper seats where there is a big handicap section.
The seats tonight were near third base and awesome. I have never had such great seating.

Emma was pleased to see me when I got home. She is at my side and we are ready to head to bed. Nicer weather today compared to the snow storm the day before.

It is probably good for both Emma and I to know she can handle being alone. I am always so glad to have her at my side again when I return home.

If I am not mistaken, I think Helping Paws is waiting for another litter of puppies to be born. Did I spell that correct? I think Tiga is the mother. I haven't talked to Judy for such a long time.

Well keep me posted if you know about puppies that I do not. Peaches had her puppies I know that.

have a great day - Emma and Mary

 Play Ball

Take ME out to the ball game.

I am head out to the ball game to see the Twins play. They won yesterday. Let's hope they do today. We have really good seats as my sister won them at work. I am usually up in the cheap seats. I can't wait to go.

Emma is going to stay home as I think it will be crowded where we are sitting. Greg's work schedule did not work for him to pick me up and go to the game - however he does not work really late so will be home before I will. Emma just got to eat dinner early and we took a long time outside = so she is happy. I think she sleeps when I am gone. She has gone to the Twins Game before with me. Once in awhile it doesn't hurt for her to be home alone.

We went swimming and somewhere for lunch. Bruegers. Emma loved being outside today. The snow is melting and it is sunny. We still have enough for her to roll around in and that makes her very happy. Tomorrow I plan to take the scooter out to take her for a walk. I hope we get into the routine to do that at least once daily. I love getting out and of course the walking is good for her.

She really does run and race around our yard. When she gets home and is undressed she does laps around the yard. Then when it is time to go in at night (dark time) she always does like a big lap or two around the yard on her way in. I normally can get her in without the lap if I use the comand Emma now. But if I am more leisurely and say let's go or we're done she does the laps first. I think she can tell when I am more leisurely or want her to go right away.

I fell outside the other day. It is icy on part of our patio. I had left the door to the house open. I told her to go get help and yes once again she showed me how she can race to get Greg. This is so reassuring to me. I first tried to get up with just bracing on her but it was too icy. I should not have walked in that spot. She is such a great dog.

I do find sometimes though she is a bit hesitant on other things. Not on get help. Today she got the towel she was laying on in swimming and handed it to me. Then I accidentally dropped it again. Her expression was priceless. Did she think I did this on purpose? She looked very disinterested and I had to repeat more than once my command to her to "get the blanket for me". I dropped the shampoo in the shower and had the same issue. It dropped where she would not get wet either. The cover was still on the bottle. Maybe it didn't taste good? Well anyway she did get it but my point is sometimes she has days where she needs more reminders than normal.

Normally I do NOT want her to make me repeat cues. I learned that as a teacher. If they think they don't have to listen the first time - they will wait till you say it repeatedly. I have to watch myself on days like today. I try to give the command and wait it out rather than repeat it over and over. She is a great service dog - but even like people some days she feels more like working than others.

Yeah time to get ready for the big game. I will take Emma out one last time too.

Take good care and say hurray for spring and baseball. Even if the Twins Opener was during the snowstorm yesterday. If it had been played outside (which will be the case in two years when their new stadium opens) it might have been canceled due to the snow. We had eight inches of wet snow in our yard this morning.

 Snow for Emma

SNOW - a heavy storm warning was issued. So far the temp on the ground is such that snow is wet melting on roadways but accumulating on the grass. Emma is enjoying it. Right now it is coming down fast and furious. They say it will snow into the wee hours of the morning. We will have to see if they are correct. I wonder if this will be our final snow for the season - you never know in MN.

TWINS OPENER - Ironically it is the first day of baseball for us Twins lovers. They are building an outdoor stadium but for now it is in the metrodome. It will be interesting to see how they handle MN weather in spring when it is outdoors. YEAH I am going to the Twins Game tomorrow with a friend. My sister won tickets. I am waiting to see get them in the mail today. I hear they are good seats. Greg has to work so could not go with. I will watch the game on television tonight.

DOCTORS, DOCTORS I had a Dr appointment with my endrocrinologist today, Friday my family doctor, and I think I am going to see my Multiple Sclerosis Drs. on Wed at a speaking engagement. I am not sure on that though due to transportation issue.

I will likely write more later. I just thought it was cute how excited Emma was for snow -- while the rest of us want spring to come - green grass - flowers and that type of thing.

Wishing You a Good Day. If you live where you are getting snow or rain or unpleasant weather - I wish you better weather soon...

 Emma had Fun

Emma, Greg and I had a great weekend. We met new and old friends on this fun weekend. There were many guests with children in hockey leagues too so they get the place lively. We got creative, since some of them liked running up and down the halls, we found they liked watching the dog and opening the elevator doors for us. The children I saw mostly were younger siblings of the players I think. Anyway the hotel was busy but we had a lovely time.

Women's Getaway is 12 days away i believe. That will be at a hotel downtown. We are going to call to see how difficult it might be for me to take Emma outside to do her business. It is in the heart of downtown. I am nervous going out alone at night with her. It is the Radisson. It has never been downtown before.

We had some free time and most couples we surveyed napped. Those our age anyway. They had music and a fun Casino night Saturday night. Friday night a great entertainer who did a one man show with music, comedy, and it was so enjoyable. All the meals were great and there was lots of time for conversation.

In the main meetings Saturday they shared helpful information about coping with MS. They displayed some new equipment to help with falls, transfering people, and just various ways to make life easier. More and more things are available to try to keep patients out of nursing homes. Other items shown were for people with more abilities but still needing some assistance. It was very captivating.

Good to be home but Greg went right to work. Wow it seems quiet around here. Emma and I got our nap in already. She enjoyed two long times outside with me. The weather is slowly getting warmer and part of the day was sunny. She was elated to be off duty in her own yard and then indoors.

Emma is really a bed hog. We had a king size bed. Emma loved being in it and streched out taking as much space as possible. She was so funny. At bedtime or naptime she was the first one in bed. She is so cute.

We received many compliments on her behavior and trim figure. Another service dog named Tanner was there. I am sure they would have loved to play but they did just fine both working well.

Hope you had a good weekend.

 Friday Fun Times

Today we go to the couple's Getaway

13 days till the Women's Getaway

34 days till MS Camp

Snow is melting on this mild March day. It is sunny. It is a bit muddy outside and other areas still snowy. Emma and I enjoyed getting outside. I went for my blood test. Things changed so I will not see Rosa and Sophia this afternoon. I will have to wait till next week to see them.

Have a good weekend all..............Mary and Emma
