Life with a service dog
Sunday July 1, 2007
Yeah not as dizzy. Much better day. The best part was outdoors with Emma and my granddaughters. Sophia and a neighbor girl ran through the sprinkler and had fun playing with hoses and water. Rosa sat contently on a towel next to a bowl of warm water. In it floated two rubber duckies and a boat. She was content and thrilled to put the ducks in and out of the water. Chew on them a little and then repeat the process. She had fun splashing the water too. She also watched her big sister. We were in the shade with Rosa and made sure she didn't get cold. The temp was perfect for water play. Both girls had a great time. It was relaxing for me to be with them today. Greg was there the entire time which was good. I could just sit.
At first when they came, I was so dizzy, I had to lay down for awhile. I was so bummed. But then i felt better. Sophia was so patient, but thrilled when i could play with her. We have such fun when she is here. Rosa was smiley and happy too. Emma liked the excitement. She even made it through the sprinkler once. she also liked laying in the shade by Rosa as she played with the water.
Rosa went home for a nap later in the afternoon. Sophia got to stay till supper since she was playing with the neighbor girl. Note once it was determined the neighbor girl could play then Grandma was on the sidelines ha ha. they played Barbie and pretend after playing in the water.. Greg drove her home on his way to work tonight. As she left Sophia proclaimed , "I love you guys". Well i couldn't love her anymore.
It was cute today I was able to tell Sophia a bit about the first time I met her. She at age 7 sometimes is puzzled that I don't know what she was like as a baby. I remind her that her mommy did not know my son till she was 3. Yet, i found she was very interested in my memories. I will remember to talk about that more with her.
Emma seems tired after all the comotion. I am just so thrilled to not be dizzy. My week is planned to be quiet. I doubt I will be driving for a few weeks at least. My vision seemed better today also. Greg took the lead in caring for the girls, especially in picking up or holding Rosa, the baby. That big girl is now 8 months old. She is very good at crawling backwards but still wants to go forward.
Emma is so patient with the girls. She was close to Rosa and excited so Rosa got a few bumps with the tail. Rosa just laughed it off while I moved Emma so she didn't knock Rosa over with her enthusiasm. Rosa, by the way, is very competent at sitting up by herself and keeping her balance. Even leaning forward to get her toys, or sideways, somehow she can keep herself upright. We marvel at each development.
It was so funny when Emma ran through the sprinkler. She wanted to be with the kids, and then wanted to smell something. The sprinkler moved back and forth hitting her and she ignored it. Then all a sudden she moved, I think realizing it might have been cold. No I don't have a pool for Emma or the girls. Today they all managed fine. We sure had a delightful day.
I did not go with Greg to church tonight and had not gone in the morning. I need to go to bed early and he works late (at his church). i praised God as I enjoyed the beautiful day and my lovely husband, granddaughters, and Emma. I sure felt blessed.

Dizzy but not quiet as bad. That sounds weird but true- but tired. Dan, my son slept over and spent time with us. He got one of the new iphones. Pretty interesting but out of my price range. he will use it for work and pleasure. It was amazing to see all the things he could do with it. Including getting his email, listen to music, see videos, etc. I was the first one to call him. Of course he was in the same house ha ha. It was fun for him and for us to see all it can do. It even syncs to his computer and loaded all his phone numbers, address book, calendar automatically.
Now I use a big screen computer and would probably not be in the market for such a fancy phone but can see the appeal. Dan is very careful with his money so it was fun to see him splurge a bit. Greg was home all day so we enjoyed the company. Emma had a good day.
My husband is babysitting my granddaughters here for about four hours tomorrow. I hope to feel good enough to enjoy them though he will do the lifting and such. Emma and I will both enjoy it but Greg is in charge if we need to nap. Thanks for the emails. Mary and Emma

Nurse Emma got a break. My daughter and her friend (a dog lover) came to visit. Greg also came home a bit early. She got attention and more time outdoors! It was good for her to have more play time. Greg will be home all day tomorrow. he will make sure emma gets outdoors more I think. When we are alone she is right at my side. The cat even tried to join in. Emma did not want to share her spot on the bed with the cat...though in other ways she is getting more patient with the cat. I am still pretty dizzy. It was nice to have visitors. Mike and Tia came for a little while with the baby also. I couldn't hold her but it was fun to see her. Mary

I didn't know anyone could be so dizzy. Emma is getting me a blanket, remote, telephone, and keeping me company. I always need her to pick things up so I don't get dizzy but now that skill is even more needed as I am so dizzy no matter what I do. Greg has to help me take showers (I hang on for dear life) and is helping me cope. When he is at work I have Emma. Emma is being so attentive. Last night I was resting on the couch, she brought me another blanket, the paper, a sock, like she was saying "what can I do to help?"
We had a special lunch meeting that had to be canceled of course. Due to my vision and the dizziness I can't read a book or anything. Emma helps me deal with being alone and at home. I just keep telling myself be patient, it will improve.
Thanks for email notes and cards. My computer is a bigger screen plus I can enlarge things so i can read the words. I hope I am not complaining too much. This just really is odd to deal with.

thy consider this a MS flare up. Mary started oral steroids today. Our days are quiet. I don't mind. Greg will take me out more at nightime so I get more play time. He stayed home all morning too to take care of Mary and take me outside. The medicine will help in a few days or so. emma
