Life with a service dog

This Is The Way We Wash the Clothes ...Fold the Clothes

Today is laundry day. Oh yes we did go swimming - or should I say I went swimming. We came home and rested a bit. Now to tackle that laundry. I have a bit more than usual. Yeah for Emma helping me. She hands each peice of laundry to me to fold. She likes that "game" and way of helping. The really great help is her enthusiasm over the laundry. Makes it more enjoyable to have a happy extra helper around. Yeah for Emma.

I am also continually on my quest to declutter. My office/extra bedroom seems to accumulate the things you don't know where to put or are in too big of a hurry to put away. UGH. I don't file things in a timely manner and then end up with paperwork piles. Well today we are tackling that project. Emma is the moral support I guess. I can't really expect her to use her mouth or paws to handle files for me - oh if only I could do so!

We finally got some up to date postage stamps. Luckily someone reminded me that postage went up before I mailed my personal mail. I still need to go purchase some 1 cent stamps to use with those of the old rate. I don't mail a lot of bills. Nope Emma can't help stamp those envelopes either ha ha. Some days she doesn't have to work as hard as others ha ha. But don't forget Emma dear we do have laundry.

It rained most of the day (we needed it) so Emma had only quick trips outdoors. Now skies are clearing so tonight we will get outside. Yipee she gets to start having small amounts of her regular dogfood mixed in with the special diet stuff. Not that she minded the blander food at all. She seems to be feeling just fine. Her happy, loveable self.

I am not sure our plans for tomorrow. I think my husband only works half day. We hope to buy flowers to plant if the weekend has some dry times. We will just have to play it by ear. Sounds like my kids are busy with this and that so we are not planning a family gathering. My son Dan likely will stop by. I am not sure about Mike and his family. The girls at this point have plans.

Hope you have a nice Friday and a good Holiday weekend. Thank you JUDY for teaching Emma to enjoy laundry so much. What a helper she is. She also motivates me to put it away right away...otherwise she is likely to put it into her mouth and "bring" it to me!!

 A Rainy thursday

A big storm hit the Twin Cities Wed afternoon. We got a lot of rain and wind but no damage. A friend of mine was not as lucky. The hail was large, trees went down, and some people lost power. As far as I know their were no deaths so that is really great. I am so glad our house was okay.

I will write more later. Just wanted you to know we are fine. We are off to go swimming. It is a very rainy day but our gardens and lawn need the rain.

Have a good day, Mary

 A Good Day

I went to swim exercise again today, and Emma was great resting by the pool but watching me intently. A new life gaurd was amazed at her good behavior. Emma sure makes sure she can see me. Only once in awhile does she snooze or close her eyes. Today, I don't think she did at all.

We took time both to be outdoors and to rest. Emma babysat tonight. Rosa has been sick and her poor Mama needed some sleep. Rosa came to Grandma's while Daddy worked and Mommy hopefully slept. She did go to the doctor and I guess it is a virus. She was in much better shape tonight and was very snuggly. She even watched part of the Twins game with Grandma. We also played a bit. At six months old she is so much fun.

Rosa likes Emma. Emma likes to give her doggy kisses and Rosa just laughs and laughs. It is a sure way to get a smile out of her. So there I was a few hours with my dog, my granddaughter, and watching a Twins game. Is that a good evening or what? It is good I took a nap though as then I was fresh tonight.

Emma is feeling better. Thanks for the notes from those of you wanting her to feel better. The best news is she likes the special dog food she is on. Pretty soon I will start mixing it with a bit of her normal dog food and gradually transition her back to that food. In the meantime I am glad to have a happy dog.

Yeah Memorial Day Weekend is coming up. We hope to get outside and plant flowers though some rain is predicted. I don't know if our kids will be able to come by or not. Many of our neighbors already have their flowers out due a warm spring. I want to get ours in so we can enjoy them before snow flies. You have to love MN summers as they go by so quickly ha ha.

I have to get to bed. Wishing you a good day tomorrow. It may rain part of the day but I think we will still get outside. Now I can take her for a walk in the scooter again. When her bowels were messy I didn't as I didn't want to have to clean it up enroute. Normal stools mean normal routine in our life. I am not sure what are day will be yet. Emma is fine yeah yeah yeah. Rosa is better too so that is also good news.

 from Emma

Hi,

We went to book club today. I am so comfortable at Barnes and Noble. Mary did bring my blanket and I just rest and listen to the lively conversation. The group had 8 people and one dog today. I wait patiently through the entire group session. Today we didn't leave till almost two hours. At the end she did let two people pet me. I like that.

It was a warm day. Greg mowed and we got outside. It was also a good day for a nap. Mary has a different comforter on her guest bed and oh oh oh I like how comfy it is. I was on that awhile and when Mary is on the computer.

We went to the hardware store. Guess what happened. Those guys talked Mary into something that wasn't what Greg wanted. they insisted she was mistaken in what she wanted. MEN. Well actually at that store most of them are fine. One older man must think all women are dumb. So now the box of nails has to be returned. This is the second time Mary and I have had this happen. I guess we won't let than gentleman help us next time.

Mary is going to get her hair cut at 8 pm tonight. Now that is late for us. She has been crabby about her hair since camp. Maybe she won't be so frustrated once it is cut again.

Guess what? I hate the taste of the pills I have to take. Do they think I am deaf? I heard the vet say it is bitter. They tried to hide it in dog food (canned) but I figured it out. Last night no matter what they tried I outsmarted them. Mary would think I ate it but darn it she found the pill on the floor.

Now today greg gave me just a bit of liverworst (not sure how that is spelled). I can eat that. If he snuck a pill in that I didn't taste it at all. Mary says I only have to take this medication a few more days. the special dog food tastes fine to me. The vet said to give me more mini meals and wow I could get use to that. Mary measures what I eat of course. I don't think even once she forgot to measure. She says I should measure her food for her ha ha.

Greg is trying to mow this year. The past two years a nephew did it for us. The money saved is going to the cleaning lady but she couldn't come today. Even though we were ready for her. Bummer. Greg is really tired from mowing and doing indoor projects too. Yep that bathroom is not done yet. One of the corners popped and had to be redone. Luckily that was noticed before the tiling was done.

Time to eat and then go out with Mary. Hope you all have a good day. Reading must be fun as Mary and her friends sure seem to enjoy it. This time they are reading "The Madonna's of Leiningrand" Oh crap I can't spell at all.

Have a good day, Emma

 Emma's Feeling Better

Yeah Emma is feeling better. A trip to the vet helped us get a medication and special easy to digest dog food that replaces the rice diet. Oh she got so she wouldn't eat the rice and it wasn't doing the trick anyway. Only one day did she seem more withdrawn and not herself. Now she is leaping through the yard and doing just fine.

We did go to Bemidji as planned for the graduation. We thought Emma was better. Well we were wrong. It was not fun to be four hours from home with a puppy with loose stools. I had brought towels to protect my son's car from dog hair. Let's just say that wasn't the only protection it needed. I had to call the vet from there. We gave her plenty of water and plenty of trips outside to relieve herself. The graduation was long but nice. Emma stayed outside part of the time with Greg. Even I sat outside part of it, it was long and hot. The loudspeakers were such that you could hear where we were. Much of the time we were in a cool hallway with a chair listening to it all. Emma had a blanket and slept away yeah.

Saturday we went to the vet. All this still seems to be from Emma over eating on dog food and upsetting the balance to her system. Blood tests, stool tests, and nothing else was found. She got a thorough check up since we were there. The vet was right that in about 24 hours she would feel better with the combination of the medication, and the dog food that is a special brand for when they need a bland diet. I am glad she feels better. She even slept all night with no accidents....we took a nap too.

Rosa is coming tonight while the kids take Sophia to a movie. I better get ready.
